From News Center (Text by Li Bole, Li Jiannan from School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering; Photos by Fan Ranran, Luo Hongbo from School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) On September 11, the 2025 World Vocational College Skills Competition (Southeast Asia Region) concluded successfully at Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science in Phnom Penh. Under the careful guidance of our teacher team, Indonesian international students enrolled in the "1+1+1" joint training program at School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering formed six teams to participate in the competition. Finally, they achieved an outstanding result of 1 gold and 4 bronze medals in the intelligent equipment application event.
This year, the World Vocational College Skills Competition has been set up in the Southeast Asia region for the first time. Under the guidance of China’s Ministry of Education’s competition philosophy of "encouraging cross-border and cross-school team formation for participation", and relying on the mature vocational education cooperation system co-established by our university and Indonesia, our School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering selected and formed six teams from the first and second batches of Indonesian international students of the China-Indonesia "1+1+1" joint training program. These participating international students received intensive training on both professional skills and English presentation abilities, under the joint guidance of teachers from our School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and International Exchange Department. Meanwhile, teachers from Indonesian institutions such as Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya and Politeknik Manufaktur Bandung also provided competition preparation support online. Eventually, a united and high-spirited team from LZPU, consisting of "Chinese teachers + Indonesian students", was formed for the competition.
On September 9, Luo Hongbo and Li Jiannan, teachers from School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, led six teams consisting of 12 Indonesian international students to Cambodia. Bearing in mind the instructions from the university leaders, the delegation overcame difficulties with firm conviction and stood out in the fierce competition involving teams from multiple Southeast Asian countries. Among them, the team guided by Li Bole, a teacher from School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, won the gold medal, and four teams guided by teachers of our university, including Wu Zhaohui, Chen Ting, Liang Lei, and Li Jiannan, all won bronze medals.
This competition has received great attention from the governments of China and multiple Southeast Asian countries. Hang Chuon Naron, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, Wang Wenbin, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, and Yudil Chatim, Education and Cultural Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in China, attended the award ceremony and presented awards to our university's delegation. The participating contestants were greatly encouraged and stated that they would bring this experience back to school, study diligently and refine their skills together with other international students, and strive for higher honors.
It is reported that this overseas mission was time-constrained, yet an honorable one. The participating teams overcame numerous difficulties and received strong support from multiple parties at home and abroad. Leaders of our university coordinated relevant personnel from the General Office, Academic Affairs Office, Human Resources Office and other departments to assist overnight in preparing competition materials. The leadership team of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering formulated exit support measures and emergency plans in a short period of time; the teacher team set up targeted support groups to assist with competition preparation, and Chinese students who had previously participated in skills competitions returned to school in advance to help with the preparation. The International Exchange Department dispatched teachers to support the handling of formalities for the participants; the Exit-Entry Administration Department of Liuzhou Public Security Bureau opened a special expedited channel for the participating students. Multiple Indonesian partner institutions held several special briefings in succession, and Yudil Chatim, Education and Cultural Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in China, even personally coordinated with the Indonesian Embassy in China and the Indonesian Embassy in Cambodia to provide security guarantees for the participating teams.
Benefiting from the support of all parties, the hard work of the participating contestants has finally paid off. Behind this heavyweight support lies high trust and recognition for our university's educational quality and achievements in internationalization. All the contestants in this competition are from the China-Indonesia academic education "1+1+1" school-enterprise joint training program. This program, led by our university, represents a new model of international cooperative education in vocational education and has already achieved initial results. The good news of winning awards in this competition has crossed the ocean and sparked heated discussions among Indonesian partner institutions, which will further boost our university's international cooperative education efforts.
